Junk Food is forever favorite, for the long run it ruins our digestive system and imbalance the whole routine of our digestive system. Did you know eating junk is inviting our body to get prone to any type of new disease? 2019 is all about changing these age-old food habits.
Bakery Items – This is my all-time favorite yet scary intake. Sweet or Savory from bakeries need to be replaced by instant cakes or pastries with homemade ingredients and fresh cream. The stabilizers or preservatives used in any bakery items are not good for everyday intake. If you are still dicey make sure you get a fresh loaf or sponge cake made from your baker friend.
Fermented Breakfast Dishes – Many of us don’t like fermented dosa’s and these can be surely replaced by instant dosa which is easy to make and yummy too. Read Malvani Ghavne and Instant Dosa Recipe
Eat Seasonal and Organic – It is important to include fresh veggies and fruits that are local and seasonal. We make sure to pick them from an organic farm as the other ones have pesticides sprayed during farming. Once you cut any fruit or vegetable consume it within 20 minutes after you cook any vegetable do not keep stale vegetables in the refrigerator for the other day, make sure you have it the same day.
Wrong Food Combinations – I have been regular with Ayurvedic Consultation and mom used to always tell about wrong food combinations, sharing them today. Fish or Meat with Milk, Milk with any Meal, Ice-cream with Fish, Yogurt with Milk, Tea with Fruits.
Replace Sweets – It is very important to include homemade sweet options like Sheera (Sweet made with Semolina), Atta ka Halwa (Sweet made with Wheat Flour), Til Poli (Sweet made with Sesame Seeds and Jaggery), Puran Poli (Sweet made with Split Chickpeas). Avoid packaged foods as it contains harmful preservatives, make fresh sweet dishes at home.
Keep Yourself Hydrated – We come across people who say drink 3 liters of water every day. I stick to one pattern throughout – “Drink water only if it’s necessary, every body is different and acts differently”. Keeping yourself hydrated will not only add a glow to your face but makes digestion smooth. Drink a glass of lukewarm water each morning. Carry a steel or copper bottle while traveling. Drink coconut water and avoid aerated drinks.

Thank you dear

Ah! The pleasures of ‘replacing’ are sweet in your post. Just one question: Why can’t we live a healthy life without replacing anything? 🙂
January 23, 2019 at 4:09 pm
Appreciate this question. Glad to see your comment on my blog, I love the way you write your posts. I would say, we can, of course, live a healthy life without replacements if everything consumed is in a proper quantity, diet, and sleep.
January 25, 2019 at 3:51 pm
Actually, we had good food habit during earlier days. we replaced them eventually with ready-made food. So now we are literally replacing them with earlier habits 😀 What do you think?
January 25, 2019 at 10:58 pm
That is a good decision. A ready-made meal/snack is a quick option and once in a blue moon it is alright but for a long run, fresh, local, and organic will help you get desired results. Remember, what we consume reflects on our face glow so plentiful healthy stuff it will benefit.
January 23, 2019 at 4:19 pm
I am guilty of loving cakes and brownies. Surely switching to everything organic would surely keep few things checked if not all.
January 25, 2019 at 11:01 pm
Hahahaha. Same pinch, I can feel the pain. This habit is a difficult one.

Happy that you pointed out the “wrong food combinations” which most of us ignore or even unaware of. Great post with a few mindful tips. Thanks for being a part of this train.

My father is a great believer in the wrong combination of food and its harmful effects. I read this out to him and he is really happy that you have written such a practical post.
January 26, 2019 at 12:05 am
Thank you so much to you and uncle 🙂
I’m happy you both had some talk together related to this post 🙂

Good tips Varsha. I love puran poli but cannot make it well. If we can make snacks like these at home, we might not need junk food.
January 26, 2019 at 12:07 am
Well said dear, homemade is the best food ever 🙂 I’m not an expert but will surely try to post or upload a video on Puran Poli someday. You can check videos and try, it is an easy one and everyone in the family loves it.

I love Dosa, Idli as breakfast. Not only I love it but it is also very light on stomach. Wrong combination is a very important point. Glad you talked about it along with sugar replacement and healthy breakfast options.
January 26, 2019 at 12:09 am
Well Said! Light Breakfast yet a fulfilling one is necessary. Food like Idli and Dosa surely stands out in the category.

You echo my thoughts here. I also want to cut down bakery items and I have already done that for myself. But my 4 years old simply loves cakes and pastries and he is not willing to switch to Halwa or home made laddoos. I am still trying to tweak his habits.
January 26, 2019 at 12:16 am
I’m not yet a mommy but I feel let the kids enjoy their childhood and not to restrict them until it’s a habit. Childhood is all about having fun and enjoying that pampering from adults in the family 🙂 I’m happy we have mutual thoughts. Maybe try having halwa and ladoo with him so he can have them too else try to serve halwa in cookie cutter shapes so it becomes attractive to him. You’re a mommy rest you know it all 🙂

Lovely writeup with so many common sense approaches to replacing the regular nutrition deficient galore of items we consume. Traditional wisdom like shweta, TIL bugga and more can’t be more relevant than these days. Thanks for sharing:)
January 28, 2019 at 10:19 am
I found your write-up very useful Varsha. Never gave it a thought before, but it’s actually so important to identify and stay away from wrong food combinations. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
January 28, 2019 at 12:23 pm

January 28, 2019 at 12:51 pm

January 28, 2019 at 12:52 pm
Very relevant points that you have shared here. The wrong combinations bit is especially what caught my attention. Our parents and grandparents have a set of these dos and don’ts. We need to be mindful of them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
January 29, 2019 at 10:38 am
The best thing about your post is that you have given me options and substitutes that are equally lovable. Loads of love to you for that.
January 29, 2019 at 11:52 pm
Ayurveda, indeed, is a treasure-trove of food, nutrition and health wisdom. Kudos to you for drawing attention to ‘Wrong food combos’. It’s something that rarely finds mention even in blogs dedicated to healthy eating.

inspite of knowing the flaws of bakery items, it is tough to combat but I diminish its effects by adding sprouts and fermented n boiled dishes in my diet. Lovely read.
January 30, 2019 at 2:19 am
These are great tips!! I like how you explained. I am a fan of instant breakfast instead of fermentation breakfast!! Time saving and healthy!!

January 30, 2019 at 10:55 pm
As a child, my mother had always insisted on us eating the regional food and avoiding certain combinations. I understood the logic only after growing up. It surely helps me stay healthy. 🙂

Wrong food combinations or say Viruddhanna, is a definite no-no, as rightly mentioned by you. Very resourceful ideas here.
