The 5th post for #MyFriendAlexa is a special one as it is about a girl who created history in the sports world. We all have perfect lives but we still crib about our hardships or difficult phases. It is high time we start practicing the art of gratitude and thank everything around us. J Jerlin Anika is a girl with a superpower. Read the post to know more about this small girl who created history in the world of Badminton.
J Jerlin Anika, a 16 yr old teenager from Tamil Nadu who started playing badminton at the age of 8. She excels in the sports world of Badminton. Jerlin overcame her hearing disability and won many medals with her superpower. We have the advantage to hear the shuttle and play accordingly in Badminton unlike her as she had to judge and play accordingly.
Jerlin had to face difficulties during her game. The only person who came to her rescue was coach T Saravanan. He helped her overcome this by illustrating the game diagrams on a slate. He ensured to make her understand the mistakes and count the score by herself.
Her Recognitions and Awards
In 2017, she was the fifth-youngest player in Deaflympics, Turkey. For 2018 5th Asia Pacific Deaf Badminton Championship she won 2 silver and a bronze medal in Malaysia. She won a gold medal at the World Deaf Youth Badminton Championship held in Taipei for 2019.
A small-town girl can make so many changes in our lives. I can say our lives as she gives every one of us sheer courage to face every obstacle or learn to never give up. She started this journey at a very young age and had a few trials and errors before the actual victory. Jerlin lost many matches as she played in the normal badminton category.
The road to success was not an easy task for Jerlin. We wish her luck for her future matches and pray she makes her family and India proud. A virtual thank you to her parents and the coach who supports her at every phase of life. She is trying her best to bag the Gold for 2021 Deaflympics 🙂
