If you are unclear with 9-yard saree 💟 let me clear the confusion. 9-yard saree is usually tucked behind like a dhoti 🤗❤. This saree worn by Maharashtrian women and known as NAUVARI, KASHTA OR NINE – YARD DRAPE 🙈👌. Women have even fought wars in the past with Nauvari🤗. It is like “Lugade” and resembles to the male trousers aka Dhoti. This Nauvari is seen on Brahmin women of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Goa

Maharashtrian Brides prefer this type of sari for the Varmala (marriage ritual). The one I’m wearing ❤ is ethnic traditional Peshawai Nauvari drape aka Brahmini Style Drape. The drape in front looks like a zigzag or curvy pleat hanging.

To add some more information recollect the look of Actresses Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra who wore Nauvari’s for a dance sequence in the film Bajirao Mastani

For girls, who are not familiar with saree drapes search for a good tailor and stitch this beautiful drape (Ready-to-wear). This look is always complete with Green & Golden Bangles.

The brides wear green glass bangles in odd numbers. The color green signifies creativity, new life and fertility. They wear these along with solid gold bangles called patlya and carved kadas called tode. The gold bangles are usually gifts by the groom’s family. ❤ Some Quick Facts about Nauvari ❤

💟Nauvari does not need under-skirt like the normal sarees, knee-length leggings or shorts are best. Prefer same color leggings.

💟Always add a Gold Nose Nathni (Maharashtrian nose ring) adorned with pearls & stones. Artificial ones are available for less than 100 bucks & usually have both pearl and stone variety. Mine was a clip-on type

💟The mistake done by me was washing my hair late and could not attain the perfect hair-do(hair bun) and had to keep it open. Always try to do middle partition tight bun adorning it with a Gajra (Flowers). Go for Ambada Pins which has pretty beads to add the Maharashtrian feel

💟If you don’t own gold/glass bangles go for simple green & artificial gold bangles

💟No outfit is ever complete without jewellery 📿💍 Plan some artificial Temple Jewellery – Lakshmi Haar (has Laxmi or Ganesha on the coins), Traditional Kolhapuri Thushi (simple choker yet traditional which comes with adjustable dori)
